JOSEPH A. SOMMERJoseph A. Sommer was born March 1, 1906, at
Parkston, SD, to Carl and Elizabeth (Thuringer)
Sommer. He grew up and attended school in this area.
He married Catherine Laber on November 21, 1934,
at Parkston.
They farmed near Parkston until 1956 when they
moved to Wichita, KS. Joe worked for the Southwest
Grease and Oil Company in Wichita until he retired in
1978. They moved back to Parkston in 1979. Catherine
died on February 15, 1988.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Joseph died on Sunday, December 5, 1993, at the
Bormann Manor at the age of 87.
He is survived by a son, Stanley Sommer of Bedford,
IN; a daughter, Mrs. Lloyd (Eileen) Miller of Arling-
ton, TX; five grandchildren and one great—grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, six
brothers and five sisters.
