Obituary

Mrs. Wesley A. Smith passed away
at McKennan hospital on Monday
afternoon after an illness of fifteen
months, at the age of 47 years, 3
months and 13 days.

Mrs. Smith was the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. M. J. Anglum and
grew to girlhood at Early, Ia. She
received her early schooling in the
Iowa public schools and was graduated
from the Early, 1a., high school. She
also attended Cornell college, Mt.
Vernon, Ia., and the Teachers’ col-
lege, Cedar Falls, Ia. She taught in
Iowa schools for five years.

She was united in marriage to Wes-
ley A. Smith on Sept. 14, 1921, and
for the past 23 years had resided
with her family-on a farm in this
vicinity.

Mrs. Smith was very active in
church, community and civic activities
as long as her health permitted and
united with the Methodist church as
a young girl, and joined the Ben
Clare church after her marriage. She
was superintendent of the Ben Clare
Sunday school and a member of the
Ben Clare W. S. C. S. and Ben Clare
W. C. T. U. as well as the Valley
Springs American Legion Auxiliary
and P. T. A. and the Sunshine Exteng
sion club.

Services were conducted at 1:30 p.
m. on Thursday at the home and at
2 o’clock at the Ben Clare church.
Dr. A. W. Fauquet, local pastor, offi-
ciated.

Three songs, “Beautiful Isle of
Somewhere,” “Abide with Me,” and
“Nearer, My God, to Thee,” were ren-
dered by the Rowena quartette. In-
terment was in the Valley Springs
cemetery with the Miller funeral home
in charge.

Pallbearers were Garlet Hocke,
Sheldon Scott, Roy Scott, Stenno Se-
verson, Peder Phillips and Clinton
Harvey.

Mrs. Smith was preceded in death
by her parents and an infant son,
Hanford. She is survived by her
husband; two sons, Donald and Gil-
bert, both at home; five sisters, Mrs.
W. E. Shontz and Mrs. Raymond
Holler, both of Correctionville, Ia.;
Mrs. I. F. Taylor, Omaha, Neb.;
Edith Anglum, Council Bluffs, Ia.;
and Mrs. Richard Smith of this vicin-
ity. One brother, Gerald Anglum,
Early, Ia., also survives, as well as
many other relatives and friends who
mourn her passing and extend their
heartfelt sympathy.
